Bryn Mawr College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for Mandated Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Training for Staff. Bryn Mawr College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for having a Bias Response Team. Bias Reporting Systems and Response Teams are systems or teams of faculty, staff, and sometimes law enforcement.
According to <a href="https://speechfirst.org/bias-reporting-systems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SpeechFirst</a>, students are “encouraged to report ‘bias incidents’ to these boards (or teams) in the name of inclusion and tolerance, but it’s often unclear what the school considers ‘bias’ in the first place. Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

Bryn Mawr College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for the Ratio of Right-Leaning Clubs to Left-Leaning Clubs. Out of a list 20 clubs (10 from each side), the <a href="https://www.brynmawr.edu/inside/offices-services/student-engagement/clubs/service-activism-outreach-clubs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university</a> has no right-leaning clubs compared to two left-leaning clubs. Denied Turning Point USA Chapter

Bryn Mawr College receives an “A-” grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $181.83 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. Bryn Mawr College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for Required Equity, Diversity, or Inclusion Courses for Students. Beginning in August 2023, the college <a class="waffle-rich-text-link" href="https://www.brynmawr.edu/news/new-power-inequity-justice-requirement-approved-bryn-mawrs-faculty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requires</a> all students to complete a &#8220;Power, Inequity, and Justice&#8221; requirement.
The <a class="waffle-rich-text-link" href="https://www.brynmawr.edu/sites/default/files/media/documents/2023-08/2023-24_Catalog.pdf#page=30" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Course Catalog</a> states: &#8220;The Power, Inequity and Justice requirement foregrounds more explicitly a basic ethical component of a twenty-first century education: an understanding of the ways that power dynamics and heirarchies shape the production of knowledge and access to opportunity, as well as engagement with histories and futures of social transformation and justice.&#8221;
Course goals include, but are not limited to:

<li>&#8220;Identify and understand the societal, physical, and/or psychological effects of racialization, racial discrimination, dispossession, and exploitation caused by systemic structural inequality and structures of power,&#8221;</li>
<li>&#8220;Identify and understand the societal, physical, and/or psychological effects of being defined by one&#8217;s race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, class, nationality, disability, religious beliefs, and/or culture; and/or other forms of systemic structural inequality,&#8221; and</li>
<li>&#8220;Gain knowledge of and critical perspective on histories and legacies of colonialism and/or imperialism, including but not limited to exploitation, enslavement, displacement, genocide, and extraction.&#8221;</li>

Bryn Mawr College receives a &#8220;C &#8220;grade for Protests and Canceling Speakers. <a href="https://haverfordclerk.com/tense-discussions-in-bryn-mawr-student-sit-in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In November 2023</a>, students participated in an “all-day emergency sit-in” outside the university president’s office. The source said the protest &#8220;aimed to draw the administration’s attention to the SJP’s demands.&#8221; The student group’s demands included financial investment transparency, solidarity with Palestinian students, and immediate support for a cease-fire in Palestine.
In December 2023, <a href="https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/student-shot-in-vt-spoke-at-bryn-mawr-college-after-story-sparked-area-wide-demonstrations/3719329/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a pro-Palestine peaker</a> led a student sit-in to protest war escalations between Hamas and Israel. Students gathered to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

Protests and Canceling Speakers

Bryn Mawr College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for Mask and Vaccine Mandates. According to the university, &#8220;Vaccines are <a class="waffle-rich-text-link" href="https://www.brynmawr.edu/inside-254" target="_blank" rel="noopener">required</a> for all BMC students. The current College requirement includes a completed primary, or currently available, vaccine series with the first booster for all who were eligible.&#8221;

Bryn Mawr College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students.
The university requires students to complete one course from a category titled “Inquiry into the Past” which says students will “inquire into the development and transformation of human experience over time.”
However, the vast majority of <a href="https://www.brynmawr.edu/inside/academic-information/departments-programs/history/courses#HISTB129" target="_blank" rel="noopener">History classes</a> offered that fulfill this requirement have biased descriptions. None of the required courses appear to relate to Western Civilization.

<a href="https://www.brynmawr.edu/inside/people/chanelle-wilson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chanelle Wilson</a> is an Assistant Professor of Education and the Director of Africana Studies at Bryn Mawr College. According to her university profile, her research focuses on “race and anti-racism in education, decolonization of schools and the mind, students as teachers and learners, culturally relevant pedagogy in international schooling contexts, and multicultural education in K-12 settings.”
Wilson gives professional development training on <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/chanelle-wilson-1587565" target="_blank" rel="noopener">teaching in an anti-racist and decolonial way</a> to educators at universities across the country. An April 2021 presentation to educators at Penn State University was titled, “Is My Syllabus Oppressive? An Introduction to Critical Review and Revision.”
According to Newsweek, the presentation was meant to provide “background information necessary for participants to begin to establish an anti-racist and decolonial education practice” with an objective to “promote reflection among the participants on their own positionality and practice and to engage them in thinking about the steps needed to deconstruct and reconstruct their own pedagogy and curricula in equitable, just, and inclusive ways.”
She says this is important because, “Race is so ingrained in the founding of the country and the way it operated that it is present in education as well.” Wilson, who previously taught high school students, said “she realized she was perpetuating harmful practices supporting systemic racism, which led her to question how students are taught.”
One harmful practice Wilson believes needs to be re-evaluated is grading. She says, “The ways that they have been used can act as gatekeepers to someone’s progress.”
Wilson has also been an <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/critical-race-theory-schools-211254198.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outspoken supporter of critical race theory</a> and believes that it should be taught to children at a very young age.
“Ideally, we would teach children that people are different and that people’s differences were used to separate and create hierarchy and as tools of power and inequity.” 
She claims the United States was founded on race, saying:
“Race as it functions was created to divide, and establish hierarchy. We created it. Just like gender &#8211; it’s something we created to decide upon norms. …In the U.S., it’s in all facets of life because the U.S. was founded on race.”
