According to the <a href="https://www.gcu.edu/coronavirus-disease-2019-information#h-frequently-asked-questions">university’s</a> COVID-19 Updates for 2021-22 page, “GCU will continue to encourage students, faculty and staff to get a COVID-19 vaccination and will assist those who want to receive the vaccine during the fall semester.&#8221;
The university does not mandate or encourage masks unless students are &#8220;in clinical settings, including the Health and Wellness Clinic, where face coverings are required, and in nursing laboratory environments where face coverings are used in order to replicate real-world health settings in which those are utilized.&#8221;

Grand Canyon University receives a “C-” grade for Crime Rates in University City or Town. According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Phoenix, Arizona violent crime rate was 737.57 per 100,000 people in 2018, higher than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.
It should also be noted that the area surrounding the Grand Canyon University campus has a higher crime rate than most other areas in Phoenix. However, the university is gated and has three entrances and 24-hour security.
