Dr. Caitlin Bernard is a physician affiliated with IU Health and an <a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/23008/bernard-caitlin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at the IU School of Medicine.</a> Dr. Bernard is one of the few doctors in Indiana who has specific training in second-trimester abortions and she <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/28/us/politics/abortion-doctor-caitlin-bernard-ohio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">performs both surgical and medication abortions several days a month at Planned Parenthood</a> clinincs in Indiana and Kentucky.
On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. Hours after this decision, the state of Ohio outlawed any abortion after six weeks. A few days later, Dr. Bernard gained national media attention for providing an abortion to a 10-year-old girl who was pregnant from rape by an illegal immigrant. The girl traveled from Ohio when she was just over six weeks pregnant.
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced that an <a href="https://fox59.com/news/national-world/indiana-attorney-general-threatens-license-of-doctor-who-provided-abortion-to-10-year-old-rape-victim/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation into Dr. Bernard had begun</a>, stating:
“Aside from the horror caused by illegal immigration, we are investigating this situation and waiting for the relevant documents to prove if the abortion and/or the abuse were reported, as Dr. Caitlin Bernard had requirements to do both under Indiana law. The failure to do so constitutes a crime in Indiana, and her behavior could also affect her licensure. Additionally, if a HIPAA violation did occur, that may affect next steps as well. I will not relent in the pursuit of truth.” 
Dr. Bernard’s attorney, Kathleen DeLaney, has <a href="https://www.wthr.com/article/news/health/indiana-doctor-who-provided-abortion-for-10-year-old-files-claim-for-damages-against-indiana-ag-caitlin-bernard-todd-rokita/531-b2c2ba9c-ed3e-4600-906c-e7603cc8eb5a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed notice of a tort claim against AG Rokita for defamation.</a> Rokita says that his “comments are supported by facts” but will not provide additional details at this time. As of September 1, Rokita said the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220914171551/https://www.indystar.com/story/news/health/2022/09/14/indiana-attorney-general-todd-rokita-office-declines-to-share-info-on-dr-bernard-complaints/69493958007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation was “ongoing.”</a>

On May 25, 2023, the Indiana Medical Licensing Board reprimanded and fined Dr. Bernard after they determined, in a 4-1 vote, that she <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/med-professor-fined-over-abortion-of-10-year-old-girls-baby/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">violated federal and state patient privacy laws</a>. Dr. Bernard told <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/health/2022/07/01/indiana-abortion-law-roe-v-wade-overturned-travel/7779936001/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Indianapolis Star</a> that she was providing an abortion to a 10-year-old from Ohio, prior to seeing the patient.
After Attorney General Todd Rokita filed a complaint against Dr. Bernard in November 2022, the board found her liable on three counts of violating patient privacy laws. During <a href="https://www.wfyi.org/news/articles/caitlin-bernard-violated-patient-privacy-abortion-patient-case#:~:text=May%2025%2C%202023,reprimand%20over%20any%20harsher%20punishment." target="_blank" rel="noopener">the hearing</a>, Deputy Attorney General Cory Voight asked Bernard whether it was true that, had she not spoken to the Star, “we wouldn’t be sitting here today?”
Bernard disagreed, saying, “I think that if the attorney general, Todd Rokita, had not chosen to make this his political stunt, we wouldn’t be here today.”
Attorney General spokesperson Kelly Stevenson counted the board’s decision as a win for patient privacy, commenting, “It’s not right and the facts were presented today that made that very clear.”
However, the board unanimously sided against the attorney general by dismissing two other allegations against Dr. Bernard. <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/26/us/dr-caitlin-bernard-indiana-medical-board-hearing/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a> reports the board determined “she did not violate laws requiring physicians to immediately report suspected child abuse and keep abreast of mandatory reporting and patient privacy laws.”
Dr. Bernard will be fined $3,000 and will receive a letter of reprimand, which agreed to allow her to continue practicing medicine.
Board President Dr. John Strobel said, “I don’t think she expected this to go viral. I don’t think she expected this attention to be brought to this patient.” He added,

According to her university profile, her research examines “racial and sexual hierarchies as they relate to policing, race, and gender.”
Professor Thusi is a Senior Scientist at the <a href="https://kinseyinstitute.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kinsey Institute</a>, previously known as the Kinsey Institute for Sex Research. The institute is named after Alfred Kinsey, who published a book during his tenure there titled “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Sexual-Behavior-Human-Alfred-Kinsey/dp/0253334128" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sexual Behavior in the Human Male</a>.”
This book features several charts that <a href="http://stopthekinseyinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/BRIEF_The-Kinsey-Institute-Exposed_A-Warning-to-Parents-and-Governments_52014.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">document the “sexual responses” of children</a> from infants through teens. The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20221217122939/https://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/03/movies/alfred-kinsey-liberator-or-pervert.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> reports, in 1995, it was discovered that much of the data used in this work came from Kinsey’s correspondence with a well-known pedophile.
In February 2023, the Indiana House voted 53-34 to <a href="https://indianacapitalchronicle.com/briefs/house-votes-to-strip-ius-kinsey-institute-of-state-funding/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prohibit state dollars</a> from going to the Kinsey Institute over concerns with the institute’s namesake. Further concerns were brought from Representative Cindy Ledbetter who said her job as a nurse practitioner has required her to take training from the Kinsey Institute on <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2023/03/08/5-bills-targeting-transgender-rights-indiana-general-assembly/69936310007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">how to administer gender-affirming medications</a> to transgender children.
As part of her work with the institute, Professor Thusi <a href="https://deliverypdf.ssrn.com/delivery.php?ID=502127090083070016029094123083082089097086084036020059023084068071008116118082029119033028006123050113058084074003090109014024062005008023034102026108125025084006116021035085100086078121019124067017092122108127109103076092012015089065084025102004005105&amp;EXT=pdf&amp;INDEX=TRUE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote a paper discussing “reality porn,”</a> which she defines as “sexually explicit materials or experiences that are facilitated through online virtual platforms.” She further defines the term by clarifying that these sexual experiences would typically “fit within the legal definition of prostitution in most states because they involve sexual conduct in exchange for a fee &#8211; but that are expressive in nature.”
Thusi writes, ”Reality porn is pornographic paid sex work that should be accorded First Amendment recognition, notwithstanding the criminalization of the underlying act of prostitution.” She notes that she has “previously argued that all forms of sex work should be decriminalized” and she extends the same argument to reality porn.
“As long as this conduct is consentable &#8211; both consented to in face and consensual in nature &#8211; it should not be deprived of constitutional protection.” 
Thusi wrote an op-ed for <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rights/586608-its-time-to-stop-policing-womens-bodies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a> titled, “It’s time to stop policing women’s bodies.” She believes, “Decriminalized sex work and access to abortion allow women in economic precarity [to] escape destitution.” She also argues:

<a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/22268/byram-jessica" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Jessica Byram</a> is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiology at Indiana University School of Medicine. She is also the Assistant Director of the <a href="https://md.mednet.iu.edu/education-programs/phase-1-years-1-and-2/#:~:text=The%20first%20two%20years%20of,a%20foundation%20for%20clinical%20competency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phase 1 Curriculum</a>, which includes all courses that are required for first and second year students.

Documents received exclusively by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/indiana-medical-students-dei-instruction-gender-basic-human-structure-course" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> show students in a first-year “Human Structure” course—co-taught by Dr. Jessica Byram and <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/valerieoloughlin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Valerie O’Loughlin</a>—are subjected to diversity, equity, and inclusion curriculum.

Fox News reports, “Students in the class receive a ‘sex and gender primer’ lesson that includes instruction on gender being a ‘social construct,’ that sex and gender are not the same thing, and on how to be a ‘more inclusive’ healthcare professional when it comes to ‘gender diverse patients.’”

The presentation also addresses how students can be mindful of “sexual and gender diverse patients” by using “inclusive terminology.” Students are encouraged to “use appropriate pronouns (default to they/them)” and to “use non-gendered, person-first and anatomy-specific language.”

<a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/17959/neal-chemen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Chemen Neal</a> is an Associate Clinical Professor and the Wellness Director for the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. According to her university profile, Dr. Neal also serves on a “new board for Planned Parenthood as part of the recent merger between Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK) and Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands (PPGNHI).”
In February 2023, Dr. Neal became the first Executive Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice and Chief Diversity Officer. According <a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/news/2023/01/chemen-neal-named-ead-deij" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to a press release</a>, Dr. Neal will “work closely with academic, research and clinical leaders across the organization to advance DEIJ strategic priorities for students, trainees, faculty and staff.”
Dr. Neal stated:
“Excellence in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice elevates all members of our medical school community. As the largest medical school in the country, we have a responsibility to be leaders in health equity and inclusive excellence. To do that, DEIJ must be woven into all aspects of what we do—research, education, patient care, faculty and staff affairs, and community engagement.” 
Her new role <a href="https://www.wfyi.org/news/articles/new-leader-on-diversity-at-iu-school-of-medicine" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will be responsible for a variety of areas</a>, including:

In September 2023, Dr. Rouse <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/opinion/2023/09/01/america-abortion-debate-indiana-is-crossroads-bleak-future/70727114007/">wrote an op-ed</a> with colleague Dr. Sherrine Ibrahim titled, “Indiana is the crossroads of America’s abortion debate and our future is bleak.” The authors condemn Indiana’s August 2023 <a href="https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2022ss1/bills/senate/1/details">abortion law</a>, which criminalizes abortion after 20 weeks and medication abortions after 8 weeks. They argue that “abortion is a critical health care service” and claim exceptions for rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother are not enough. They state:
“Health care practitioners continue to express that exceptions are too nebulous to follow and apply to actual clinical situations. These laws back us into a corner, forcing us to decide if we are willing to risk large fines, loss of licensure, and even imprisonment in order to provide necessary, life-saving, health care.” 
They conclude their op-ed by writing:
“Decisions regarding pregnancy do not belong in the state Capitol. They belong with patients and their health care practitioners. … If our political leaders allow the abortion ban to stay in place, Indiana’s future is bleak.” 
<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=23954">Campus Reform</a> reports that Dr. Rouse has previously been accused of “skirting state laws:”
“Voices for Life, a pro-life organization headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, filed a complaint against her on Jan. 23 of this year for performing a pill abortion on a woman who was 21 weeks pregnant, according to a termination of pregnancy report. At the time, state law only permitted pill abortions up to eight week postfertilization.” 
Melanie Lyon, Executive Director of Voices for Life, stated:
“Dr. Rouse advocates for the safety of mothers and children one day, while the next she ends babies’ lives by performing abortions at Riley Maternity Tower. That along with her apparent illegal activity makes her someone the State should hold accountable: not look to for guidance.”

He also teaches Middle Eastern Studies and publishes works dealing with “public attitudes towards Muslim immigration” and the “Islamist parties’ participation in elections.”
In January 2024, Sinno was featured in the <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/shared-governance/2024/01/11/indiana-u-sanctions-professor-supporting-pro" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Inside Higher Ed article</a>, “Indiana U Sanctions Professor Who Advised Pro-Palestinian Students.” Sinno’s guest speaker was pro-Palestinian activist <a href="https://mikopeled.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Miko Peled</a>, who has called for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. According to his website, Peled also advocates for “the creation of one democratic state with equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians” despite the <a href="https://embassies.gov.il/holysee/AboutIsrael/the-middle-east/Pages/The%20Hamas-Covenant.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">genocidal goals</a> of the Palestinian government.
The publication explains how Sinno was temporarily <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CbFlUIN8KXaM-oLB01RcDO_1yAi2ew8n/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> after “he helped book a room on campus for a November [2023] event hosted by the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a student organization.”
Inside Higher Ed said:
“Sinno booked the event space on November 6 without issue. But on November 15 … [a U.S. representative] sent a strongly worded letter to IU president Pamela Whitten, raising questions about alleged incidents of antisemitism on campus … That evening, Sinno said, his department chair told him to cancel the room reservation because he’d allegedly violated university policy by listing the department as the event sponsor.”
Over 350 faculty have signed an online <a href="https://www.petitions.net/open_letter_in_support_of_professor_abdulkader_sinno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">petition</a> demanding Sinno’s immediate <a href="https://politicalsciencenow.com/apsa-statement-on-indiana-universitys-sanctioning-of-professor-abdulkader-sinno/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reinstatement</a>. In March 2024, IU’s review board <a href="https://www.idsnews.com/article/2024/04/iu-administrator-violated-policy-suspending-professor-abdulkader-sinno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">determined</a> that university policy was violated in Sinno’s case. 
Sinno’s penalty bars him from teaching until the Fall of 2024. As of publication, he has not been reinstated.
