The <a href="https://www.su.edu/covid-19-information-for-fall-2022/shenandoah-universitys-fall-2022-covid-19-plan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university&#8217;s</a> Vaccinations guidance reads, &#8220;Widespread vaccinations within our university community have allowed Shenandoah to return to in-person academic instruction during the pandemic without the strict limitations on spacing and capacity required in the past. Shenandoah continues to strongly encourage vaccinations for students, faculty and staff.&#8221;
In terms of mask guidance, &#8220;Shenandoah no longer requires masks, but all are encouraged to practice personal responsibility and protect themselves and others by following the CDC masking recommendations based on community transmission levels. Those who are more comfortable wearing masks are encouraged to do so.&#8221;

According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Winchester, Virginia violent crime rate was 330.63 per 100,000 people in 2018, lower than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

Shenandoah University receives a “C” grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students. While the <a href="https://www.su.edu/shened/home/general-education/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university</a> does not have a required Western Civilization course or category of courses, there are options to take Western Civilization courses within two of the university&#8217;s seven general education &#8220;Domains of Knowledge.&#8221;
Within the Artistic Expression category, students can take courses such as &#8220;American Literature I&#8221; and &#8220;American Literature II.&#8221; Within The Individual in Society category, course options include &#8220;United States History I&#8221; and &#8220;United States History II.&#8221;
However, these courses can be bypassed in favor of courses unrelated to Western Civilization.
