According to <a href="https://speechfirst.org/bias-reporting-systems/">SpeechFirst</a>, students are “encouraged to report ‘bias incidents’ to these boards (or teams) in the name of inclusion and tolerance, but it’s often unclear what the school considers ‘bias’ in the first place. Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

The University of Arizona receives a “C” grade for In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants. While illegal immigrants don’t pay the same amount for in-state tuition as legal Arizona residents, the total cost is still less than those paying out-of-state tuition.

Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. The figure above only takes into account reported foreign funding.

It is our responsibility as Wildcats to promote greater social equity.&#8221;

The University of Arizona receives a “C+” grade for Protests and Canceling Speakers. Since 2021, the university has had two incidents. During an anti-abortion protest on campus, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/university-of-arizona-students-egg-anti-abortion-activists-with-graphic-display">leftists threw eggs at members</a> of the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform. A 72-year-old man was hit and their display was damaged.

Protests and Canceling Speakers

The University of Arizona receives a “C” grade for Mask and Vaccine Mandates. <a href="https://covid19.arizona.edu/vaccine">The university</a> describes its rules on vaccination: &#8220;COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and our best shot at getting back to normal.
Anyone 12 years and older can get vaccinated. The University is not requiring that students get vaccinated. However, the University strongly encourages vaccination to protect yourself and the community.&#8221;
<a href="https://covid19.arizona.edu/face-coverings">The university</a> describes its rules on masking: &#8220;Based on current public conditions and aligned with CDC guidance, masks are recommended, but not required, in most indoor spaces including classrooms.&#8221;
While vaccines and masks are strongly recommended, they are not required by the university.

University of Arizona Professor Harris Kornstein — with a drag persona named Lil’ Miss Hot Mess — expanded his child sex education advocacy into the realm of antisemitism when he led children to chant “Free Palestine” during a “queer storytime” event.

By all news accounts, Kornstein appears unaware that his right to dress in drag would not be protected in most Middle Eastern territories. In particular, queer movements and people are <a href="https://reason.com/2023/10/27/the-contradictions-of-queers-for-palestine/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">persecuted</a> — even to the point of <a href="https://www.jpost.com/opinion/article-720308" target="_blank" rel="noopener">death</a> — in Palestine, and same-sex relationships are <a href="https://www.humandignitytrust.org/country-profile/palestine/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlawed</a> in Gaza. 

<a href="https://azfreenews.com/2024/04/university-of-arizona-drag-queen-professor-pushes-children-to-support-hamas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AZ Free News</a> stated, “Kornstein encouraged a crowd of children to chant ‘Free Palestine!’ as a response to: ‘If you’re a drag queen and you know it’ … Palestinians don’t tolerate LGBTQ+ individuals, especially Hamas. Anyone involved in those lifestyles in the area risks persecution and violence at minimum, even death.”

<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/drag-queen-orders-children-chant-free-palestine-during-queer-story-hour-massachusetts-arts-center" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News said</a>, “The event included ‘dancing, celebrating Palestine culture, learning about queer heroes doing arts and crafts’ … Event profits were donated to alQaws, a Palestinian organization ‘working for queer liberation’ … The event and video sparked harsh backlash online, with many pointing out that LGBTQ people are not usually treated with respect in Gaza or other Palestinian areas.”

Kornstein posted about the event on his <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lilmisshotmess/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram</a> account.

I confronted Harris Kornstein Assistant professor of LGBTQ+ studies at University of Arizona about his bizarre obsession with performing in drag in front of children as well as some of his books and papers about exposing children to this lifestyle. University of Arizona Professor Harris Kornstein performs as a drag queen named “Lil Miss Hot Mess.” <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=21548" target="_blank" rel="noopener">His recent appearance</a> at a gay bar in Texas included a drag story hour with elementary-aged minors. Kornstein’s performance caught the attention of a reporter from Turning Point USA’s <a href="https://twitter.com/DrewHLive?s=20">Frontlines w/Drew Hernandez</a> (see below). Despite multiple opportunities to explain why he believes drag shows for underaged children should be normalized, Kornstein refused to respond and proceeded to contact campus security.

Campus Reform featured Harris Kornstein/Lil Miss Hot Mess in an article titled, “<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=21548" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Arizona prof performs drag for kids</a>.” 

The Reform said, “[Kornstein] performed drag for children at Cheer up Charlies, a Texas gay bar…The performance was hosted by drag queen Brigette Bandit and <a href="https://www.dragstoryhour.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Drag Story Hour</a>, an organization that regularly hosts drag queen ‘storytellers’ that use ‘the art of drag to read books to kids in libraries, schools, and bookstores.’”

<a href="https://pah.arizona.edu/people/harris-kornstein" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harris Kornstein</a> is an Assistant Professor for the Institute for LGBTQ+ Studies at the University of Arizona. 

On his <a href="https://www.harriskornstein.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, Kornstein says that “By night, I'm a <a href="https://www.lilmisshotmess.com/">drag queen</a>, and have performed at venues ranging from San Francisco's legendary <a href="https://www.studsf.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stud bar</a> to SFMOMA, and Stanford University to <a href="https://perezhilton.com/katy-perry-drag-queens-deny-migos-drama-saturday-night-live/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saturday Night Live</a>.” When in drag, Kornstein goes by the drag name of “Lil Miss Hot Mess.”

Kornstein has written children's storybooks about drag queens. One of these books (published in 2020) is titled “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Hips-Drag-Queen-Go-Swish-ebook/dp/B07XDNJB14" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish.”</a> The book’s description states:
“Playing off "The Wheels on the Bus," this nursery rhyme book from a founder of Drag Queen Story Hour is a fun, freewheeling celebration of being your most fabulous self.
"The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish encourages readers to boldly be exactly who they are. Written by a founding member of the nationally recognized Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH), this playful picture book offers a quirky twist on a classic nursery rhyme by illustrating all of the ways to "work it". The story plays off "The Wheels on the Bus" as it follows a drag queen who performs her routine in front of an awestruck audience. A fun frenzy of fierceness, this book will appeal to readers of all ages.”

In 2022, Kornstein also published a similar-themed book titled <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Youre-Drag-Queen-You-Know/dp/0762475331" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“If You're a Drag Queen and You Know It.”</a> The book’s description states the following:
“Strike a pose. Blow a kiss. Mouth the words. A fun, sing-along book with a drag twist that encourage kids to embrace all the playfulness of drag culture written by a founding member of Drag Queen Story Hour."
“If you’re a drag queen and you know it, let it show by winking, shaking your bum, laughing real big, twirling around, and more! Join a cast of fabulous drag queens as you sing along to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It” in this playful celebration of expressing your brightest and boldest self. A perfect companion to The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish written by a board member of Drag Queen Story Hour.”

In 2020, Kornstein and Professor Harper Keenan of the University of British Columbia wrote an article titled, <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/03626784.2020.1864621">“Drag pedagogy: The playful practice of queer imagination in early childhood.”</a> 

Kornstein and Keenan claim that, “To the unimaginative adult (which – sigh – describes most of us), it might seem that the world of drag and the world of children are impossibly distant from one another.”  

The authors also “propose that DQSH [Drag Queen Story Hour] offers a particular kind of queer framework – what we call drag pedagogy – for teaching and learning that extends beyond traditional approaches to LGBT curricular inclusion.”

Concerning traditional gender roles and sexuality, the authors state their opposition in the following manner:
“In the USA, for example, many people learn that the most valued boy will be white, engage in rough-and-tumble play with other boys that will toughen him up and straighten him out, allowing him to mature into a man who wears a suit and tie, makes a lot of money, enters into a sexually monogamous marriage with a woman, buys a home, and has enough but not too many children. In other words, a script that may begin with gender shapes how individuals are taught to understand their expected roles in society in ways that extend far beyond gender alone. Almost no one can fully conform to the script of gender all of the time.”
The authors think that “Drag Queen Story Hour” (DQSH) “publicly positions its impact in “help[ing] children develop empathy, learn about gender diversity and difference, and tap into their own creativity.”

They also expounded on what they claim is the definition of a drag queen, along with their hopes for the future of DQSH.
 “As an art form, drag is all about bending and breaking the rules, and so its aims are totally different from a normative classroom. When a drag queen enters a (class)room, she [sic] generally intends to draw attention to herself – whether through shock, admiration, or envy of her embodied performance. There is a premium on standing out, on artfully desecrating the sacred.”
In writing the article, the authors wrote that they “are guided by the following question: what might Drag Queen Story Hour offer educators as a way of bringing queer ways of knowing and being into the the education of young children?”

Speaking at MIT following the aftermath of the <a href="https://twitter.com/TPUSA/status/1171500948964818944">September 11 terrorist attacks</a> against the United States, Chomsky <a href="http://tech.mit.edu/V121/N52/52chomsky.52n.html">asserted</a> that 9/11 represented, “the guns having been directed the other way.” The Tech, MIT’s oldest newspaper, also reports Chomsky blaming US citizens for the attacks on 9/11, and that Osama bin Laden, leader of al Qaeda, might be innocent.

In an article published in 2020, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/how-many-people-died-911-thousands-perishing-september-11-related-illnesses-1531058">Newsweek found that</a> “In New York, 2,750 people were killed, at the Pentagon 184 died, and a further 40 people were killed in Pennsylvania.” Newsweek also reported that 400 first responders were killed and that 18,000 survivors have been diagnosed with “9/11-related cancer.”

Speaking at MIT following the aftermath of the <a href="https://twitter.com/TPUSA/status/1171500948964818944">September 11 terrorist attacks</a> against the United States, Chomsky <a href="http://tech.mit.edu/V121/N52/52chomsky.52n.html">asserted</a> that 9/11 represented, “the guns having been directed the other way.” The Tech, MIT’s oldest newspaper, also reports Chomsky blaming US citizens for the attacks on 9/11, and that Osama bin Laden, leader of al Qaeda, might be innocent.

Chomsky <a href="https://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individuals/noam-chomsky/">stated</a> that the United States was attempting to murder “3-4 million people” in Afganistan and that the strike against Osama bin Laden was “some sort of silent genocide.”

In an article published in 2020, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/how-many-people-died-911-thousands-perishing-september-11-related-illnesses-1531058">Newsweek found that</a> “In New York, 2,750 people were killed, at the Pentagon 184 died, and a further 40 people were killed in Pennsylvania.” Newsweek also reported that 400 first responders were killed and that 18,000 survivors have been diagnosed with “9/11-related cancer.”

In an analysis of the study, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Federalist </a>found that “of the 633 incidents coded as riots, 88 percent are recorded as involving Black Lives Matter Activists.” The resulting riots were the most destructive in American history, <a href="https://fee.org/articles/george-floyd-riots-caused-record-setting-2-billion-in-damage-new-report-says-here-s-why-the-true-cost-is-even-higher/#:~:text=Only%20now%20are%20we%20beginning,%241%20billion%20to%20%242%20billion." target="_blank" rel="noopener">causing an estimated $2 billion in damages and 47 deaths.</a>
The course is officially titled, “ENGL 101A: #SayTheirNames, a Black Lives Matter Literacy.” Students will be asked to study how American values are connected to “blackness,” and “whiteness.” Ms. Chan will then ask the following:

&#8211; What does it mean to say their names as an elegy, an anthem, and a language to give space for talking about Black Lives?

Stryker is working on a book titled “Changing Gender: A Trans History of North America from Colonization to the Present.” In a November lecture delivered at the <a href="https://flathatnews.com/2022/11/15/distinguished-professor-author-dr-susan-stryker-gives-lecture-on-sex-and-race-classification-in-colonial-anglo-america/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College of William and Mary</a>, Stryker explained his method in writing the book:
 “I draw from both scholarship and cultural theory to inform the stories that I tell in my book about gender-changing people over the last 400 years, through which I demonstrate how the social system of gender itself has changed over time,” Stryker said. “I build an argument for why, here in the late anthropocene, gender needs to change further still.”

In another 2021 article titled, <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/356018226_Transgender_Adolescent_Suicide_Behavior" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Transgender Adolescent Suicide Behavior” </a>— which Toomey co-wrote with Amy K Syvertsen and Maura Shramko—an argument is made that “most lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youths are quite resilient and emerge from adolescence as healthy adults, the effects of stigma and heterosexism can contribute to health disparities.”
In January of 2019, Toomey filed a <a href="https://www.acluaz.org/en/cases/toomey-v-arizona" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lawsuit</a> “against the State of Arizona and the Arizona Board of Regents for denying medically necessary, gender-confirming healthcare to transgender people employed by the state,” according to the ACLU.

On December 23, 2019, Judge Marquez denied Defendants State of Arizona, Andy Tobin and Paul Shannon’s Motion to Dismiss, and class certification was granted on June 15, 2020. Plaintiff filed a Motion for Preliminary Injunction on September 1, 2020 which has been fully briefed by the Parties. The Court has taken the motion under advisement.”

Since its birth, Critical Theory has been reserved for college campuses and postgraduate courses, but Julio Cammarota can be credited for bringing it into secondary schools. In his 2006 article, co-authored by <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/augustine-romero-5744703b/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Augustine Romero</a>, titled, “<a href="https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ759647.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A Critically Compassionate Intellectualism for Latina/o Students: Raising Voices Above the Silencing in Our Schools</a>,” Julio details how he developed “an alternative, social justice pedagogy in a high school located in Tucson, Arizona.” He describes the course further, saying:
“The school principal allowed us to work with a cohort of 20 Latina/o students during their junior and senior years, teaching them the state’s social studies requirements but adjusting the content and pedagogy in ways that facilitated the students’ critical consciousness around racial inequalities affecting their educational and general life experiences.”
Julio cited Paulo Freire on fourteen separate occasions within that same article. Freire is credited as one of the founders of modern day critical pedagogy, and Professor Cammarota works alongside the <a href="https://freireproject.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Freire Project</a> and other critical educators to advance his ideas.

<a href="https://coe.arizona.edu/person/nolan-l-cabrera" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nolan Cabrera</a> is a Professor of Educational Policy Studies and Practice at the University of Arizona. 
In an article for <a href="https://www.tcpress.com/blog/dont-notice-white-students-sitting-quad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Teachers College Press</a>, titled “Why Don’t We Notice the White Students Sitting Together in The Quad?”, Cabrera accused white students of “perpetuating” racial segregation on campuses, and deems segregation to be a white issue. 
“Racial segregation remains a persistent issue on campuses, and White people are the primary perpetrators of it… Campus segregation, if named accurately, is a distinctly White issue.”
Much of the article addresses certain customs and institutions that are not specific to a non-white race, which are therefore deemed to belong to the white race, according to Cabrera. For instance, he says the following of student unions and certain months:
“Newsflash, there is a White Student Union. It is just called ‘The Student Union.’”
“White History Month traditionally goes by the names of January, March, April, etc.”
