University of Connecticut President Radenka Maric said, &#8220;While the University continues to strongly recommend all students remain up to date with the COVID-19 vaccine, this recommendation mirrors Student Health and Wellness&#8217; approach towards influenza vaccines, and it is proposed to align these public health approaches by decommissioning the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for students.&#8221;

He specializes in Rhetoric and Composition, Trans and Queer Studies, Disabilities Studies, and Poetry. Trace is also a member of the LGBTQ community.

Peterson reflected on Shipley’s poem “Boy with Flowers&#8221; &#8211; the story of how Shipley refused to be the flower girl at a relative&#8217;s wedding and eventually underwent a double mastectomy.
Peterson said,
“In its visceral description of [Shipley’s] healing incisions, their stitching, and the surrounding scarring…this passage describes the aftermath of transmasculine top surgery in a way that celebrates and embraces the reality of the speaker’s present trans body while simultaneously attempting to heal the wounds of the past person.”

Davis</a> is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Connecticut. According to Davis’ faculty profile, “Her primary area of specialization is interpersonal communication, with emphases in racial and gender identity, resistance, counter-hegemony, and resilience.” Davis’ research interests include:

“In June 2020, Davis sat reeling in her apartment after attending a protest following the murder of George Floyd. The rally hadn’t helped release her built-up rage, and she knew her friends were all emotionally drained, so she didn’t want to call anyone to talk. Instead, she poured her feelings into a hashtag [#BlackintheIvory] that would go on to change her life.”
Davis was quoted directly saying:
“I really felt as though someone had murdered my brother, and that it could have been me. Though I had never had a traumatic experience with the police, after taking emotional inventory, I realized that what I was experiencing was a visceral reaction to the underlying root of police brutality — anti-black racism.”
In the book’s preface, Davis said:

CRT scholars have argued for ‘shifting the frame’ or ‘looking to the bottom’ so that the knowledge of people of color is not only exposed and heard but also valued.”

<a href="https://comm.uconn.edu/person/sharde-m-davis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shardé M. Davis</a> is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Connecticut. According to Davis’ faculty profile, “Her primary area of specialization is interpersonal communication, with emphases in racial and gender identity, resistance, counter-hegemony, and resilience.” Davis’ research interests include:

 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Black Feminism”</li>
</ul>
Davis was <a href="https://today.uconn.edu/2024/03/new-book-from-clas-professor-explores-being-black-in-the-ivory-tower/#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">featured in UConn Today </a>after publishing her book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Being-Black-Ivory-Truth-Telling-Education/dp/1469678268#:~:text=Being%20Black%20in%20the%20Ivory,9781469678269%3A%20Amazon.com%3A%20Books" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Black in the Ivory: Truth-Telling about Racism in Higher Education</a>.” UConn Today described Davis’ inspiration to write the book:
“In June 2020, Davis sat reeling in her apartment after attending a protest following the murder of George Floyd. The rally hadn’t helped release her built-up rage, and she knew her friends were all emotionally drained, so she didn’t want to call anyone to talk. Instead, she poured her feelings into a hashtag [#BlackintheIvory] that would go on to change her life.”
Davis was quoted directly saying:
“I really felt as though someone had murdered my brother, and that it could have been me. Though I had never had a traumatic experience with the police, after taking emotional inventory, I realized that what I was experiencing was a visceral reaction to the underlying root of police brutality — anti-black racism.”
In the book’s preface, Davis said:

Davis is a proponent of using critical race theory to “[interrogate] the role of race and racism in society.” <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Being-Black-Ivory-Truth-Telling-Education/dp/1469678268?asin=B0CJ4B3Z91&amp;revisionId=2d6fb680&amp;format=1&amp;depth=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In the introduction</a>, she goes so far as to state, “At the heart of CRT is a recognition of the experiential knowledge of people of color. CRT scholars have argued for ‘shifting the frame’ or ‘looking to the bottom’ so that the knowledge of people of color is not only exposed and heard but also valued.”

On her <a href="https://twitter.com/DrShardeDavis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter profile</a>, Davis claims to be an “Expert in Black Women.”

During a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Being-Black-Ivory-Truth-Telling-Education/dp/1469678268#:~:text=Being%20Black%20in%20the%20Ivory,9781469678269%3A%20Amazon.com%3A%20Books" target="_blank" rel="noopener">book</a> tour, she talked with Marymount University Professor Niles Goins about alleged “salary inequities” and “Blackademics” — which she describes in her book as “systemic racism in academic institution[s].”
