Drake <a href="https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/2020/11/president-drake-announces-new-presidential-policy-on-gender-recognition-and-lived-name.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">implemented</a> a Presidential Policy on Gender Recognition and Lived Name. The policy is intended “to ensure that all individuals are identified by their accurate gender identity and lived or preferred name on university-issued documents and in UC’s information systems.”

After Riley Gaines spoke on campus, Mahoney wrote a <a href="https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/sfsu-president-says-riley-gaines-event-was-deeply-traumatic-for-trans-community/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to the university community that stated: “&#8230;Turning Point USA hosted an event on campus that advocated for the exclusion of trans people and athletics. The event was deeply traumatic for many in our trans and LGBTQ+ communities, and the speaker’s message outraged many members of the SF State community.”

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey <a href="https://www.studlife.com/news/2023/02/22/wu-denies-ags-request-to-halt-care-at-pediatric-transgender-center" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> Martin to “impose an immediate moratorium … on prescribing puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones” to children at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Martin declined to do so, saying it is “the only place in the entire state of Missouri where transgender youth can access the care they need to ensure their mental and physical well-being.”

After the overturn of Roe v. Wade, Coleman expressed her <a href="https://universitybusiness.com/how-6-prominent-university-presidents-on-both-sides-reacted-to-roe-v-wade-ruling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">displeasure</a>, saying “I strongly support access to abortion services, and I will do everything in my power as president to ensure we continue to provide this critically important care.”

Groves wrote a 2023 “Call to Reflect and Act” where he stated to the <a href="https://commonthread.antioch.edu/chancellors-call-to-reflect-and-act/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university</a> community: “We must demand an outright ban on military-style assault rifles, large-capacity magazines, bump stocks, and much more.”

Bill Groves

Shalala was formerly President of the Clinton Foundation. According to her LinkedIn<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/donnashalala" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> page</a>, she “has advocated tirelessly for women’s rights, civil rights, increased access to health care, better education and schools [sic] and a clean, sustainable environment.”

Chancellor Christ <a href="https://news.berkeley.edu/2022/06/24/chancellor-carol-christ-roe-ruling-is-a-major-setback-for-women" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade as “a devastating setback for American women, a turning back of the clock to a time when women were not at liberty to control their bodies or their lives.”

DiStefano <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/chancellor/chancellor-call-climate-action" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a “Call to Climate Action” to the university community, where he resolved “To recognize and know that climate change is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities ever faced in human history.” He also updated the campus Climate Action Plan to include a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Philip DiStefano

After the Supreme Court <a href="https://vanderbilthustler.com/2023/06/30/chancellor-diermeier-deeply-disappointed-in-u-s-supreme-court-overturning-of-affirmative-action/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">overturned</a> affirmative action, Diermeier said he was “deeply disappointed” by the ruling. He claims, “The Court’s decision makes it more difficult for colleges and universities to create a dynamic campus community composed of people with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.”

“Shafik…has previously served on numerous boards including…the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.” She was <a href="https://www.columbia.edu/content/minouche-shafik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">selected</a> “‘Woman of the Year’ at the Global Leadership and Global Diversity Awards in 2009.”
